49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

...showing off the best that the world of cinema has to offer...

Movie fans should definitely note the 3rd to the 11th of July 2015 into their diaries, because on these days the next, and 50th International Film Festival will be held in Karlovy Vary.

So how was this year's IFF?
We can summarize the 49th International film festival, which has traditionally taken place in early July in our spa town, as having once again been an unprecedented spectacle. Films and movies filled the atmosphere with each new day while nights allowed visitors to appreciate spectacular side events and parties.

This year, visitors were delighted not only to see a Hollywood star that is indelibly ingrained in the mind of both adepts and the general public, but also to have the opportunity to watch “Apocalypto”, a film which was directed by Mel Gibson himself. Although he is regarded more as an actor, you were sure to notice that his name also holds respect in the world of directing. Although suffering from a fierce toothache, in the true sense of a professional, Mel Gibson accepted the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Contribution to the World Cinema with a smile while in Karlovy Vary.

Let's look at the festival from another angle, in numbers. An astonishing 130,987 tickets were sold for 478 projections, which could be seen from July 4th to 12th. In order of ranking the 49 film festival was celebrated by 12,433 accredited participants while of course those non-accredited were innumerable times more. Of the whopping 245 films shown at the festival, 33 were world premieres, 19 international premieres and six European premieres.
If you have just decided that you cannot miss next year’s festival, we cordially invite you to our hotel, the Carlsbad Plaza, where even outside of festival events we will make you feel like a real movie star.
